Perpetual Help Medical Center–Las Piñas reached a milestone in cardiovascular care with the successful completion of its first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) on October 5, 2026, at the Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) Catheterization Laboratory.

This achievement expands the hospital’s capacity to provide advanced, minimally invasive treatment options for appropriately selected patients with severe aortic valve disease.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Ronaldo H. Estacio and Dr. Kent Anthony L. Tan, Interventional Cardiologists, together with Dr. Rex M. Villagracia, Cardiovascular Anesthesiologist, and a multidisciplinary cardiovascular team comprising:
- Dr. Enrique Chua – TCVS
- Dr. Carmelita Lunas – Anesthesiologist
- Dr. Maria Helga F. Sta. Maria – Cardiologist
- Dr. Gilbert Florentino – EPS
- Dr. Wilmer Lotilla – Cardiologist
The Catheterization Laboratory nurses and medical staff provided essential support throughout the procedure, reflecting the teamwork and coordination behind this milestone.

TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure that replaces a diseased aortic valve without traditional open-heart surgery. It provides an important treatment option for suitable patients following careful assessment by a specialist cardiovascular team.
The successful introduction of TAVR strengthens the Heart and Vascular Institute’s role as one of the hospital’s banner centers of excellence. Through specialized physicians, advanced technology, and coordinated multidisciplinary care, the institute continues to expand its comprehensive cardiovascular services.
With this milestone, Perpetual Help Medical Center–Las Piñas reaffirms its commitment to bringing advanced heart care closer to home.
